Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is holding a security review meeting with the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) and three service chiefs -- Indian Air Force, Army and Navy -- to discuss the ongoing situation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). NSA Ajit Doval is also attending the crucial meet.
The meeting between Rajnath Singh and three Armed service chiefs has come a day after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, held crucial talks in Moscow to resolve the prolonged border standoff in eastern Ladakh in the midst of a massive spike in tensions with the armies of the two countries further fortifying their positions in the region.
The two countries have agreed on a five-point plan for resolving the prolonged border face-off in eastern Ladakh. The five-point plan included abiding by all existing agreements and protocol on management of the frontier, maintaining peace and tranquility and avoiding any action that could escalate matters."The two foreign ministers agreed that the current situation in the border areas is not in the interest of either side. They agreed, therefore, that the border troops of both sides should continue their dialogue, quickly disengage, maintain proper distance and ease tensions," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
During the meeting, India also strongly raised the deployment of a large number of troops and military equipment by China along the LAC in eastern Ladakh.
Amid the ongoing tension at the LAC, India and China will continue Brigade Commanders-level talks on Friday in Chushul. The date is yet to be decided. The Indian Army has been very actively pre-empting the Chinese Army activities in the area all along the Pangong Tso lake to prevent them from occupying any further territory that belongs to India. About six-seven days ago, India had carried out pre-emptive actions to occupy Rezang La, Recehen La, blacktop Goswami hill, and other height features near Chushul to pre-empt the Chinese army activities going on there.
